COSCO and Abu Dhabi Terminals sign MOU
Cosco Shipping Ports (CSP) terminal opened at Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi in December and the company has followed up by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) to expand collaboration between the two terminals.
CSP’s new semi-automated terminal, which will begin trial operations in April 2019, has an alongside depth of 16.5 metres has an annual design capacity of 2.5 million TEU and can accommodate container ships of more than 20,000TEU.
Air cargo concern over US Government shutdown
The shutdown of many US Federal Government agencies has led to airline concerns that correct cargo screening procedures are not being verified.
A program for cargo being screened by specially trained dogs has been introduced at many US airports, but airlines are not accepting the freight until they receive the go-ahead from the Transport Security Agency (TSA).
As long as the TSA is not accessible because of the shutdown, carriers seeking clarification of details of the canine programme are in limbo.
ANA to use bio-fuel mix on Japan–US flights
All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s has partnered with Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. to purchase approximately 265,000 litres of sustainable aviation fuel. This bio jet fuel will be mixed with aviation fuel on flights between Japan and San Francisco flights, which will result in a reduction of some 150 tons of carbon dioxide.
ANA is aiming to comply with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set by the United Nations.
