Union Pacific to launch hybrid power locomotives

A US rail company is to launch a new diesel-electric hybrid locomotive. The Union Pacific (UP) railroad company will convert ten units to Tier 4 single engine switching locomotives approved by theUS Environmental Protection Agency.

The US$15 million UP project will reduce particulate matter and nitrogen oxide emissions by more than 90%.

Drewry sees tariff-driven production shift

A new report has stated that shippers serving the US-import market are shifting production to South East Asia in increasing volumes as concerns grow over the impact of the trade war between the US and China.

Drewry suggest that, despite the 90-day moratorium on any further tariffs agreed at the G20 Summit in Buenos Aires, considerable volumes are already being sourced from countries such as Vietnam.

In the US, toys sales were down by 15% at retail stores in the first two weeks of November according to the Walls Street Journal.

Major retailers were expecting to receive a boost in sales following the closure of Toys “R” Us stores across the United States, according to a report by UBS. The bank’s research shows large retailers are being cautious and not building up inventory, which may result in more customers shopping on-line.
