Russia to start express rail service to China

A new rail service delivering food products from Russia to China will be launched connecting Krasnodar in Southern Russia to Chengdu, before the year end.

The first shipments will comprise dairy products, flour and vegetable oil, according to Russia Rail Logistics. The transit time will be between 16 and 18 days.

Kenya Airways employee threaten strike action

The Kenya Aviation Workers Union said that they will strike following the breakdown of talks with Kenya Airways Plc over a new pay deal. They said that unless a deal is agreed by October 28 they will withdraw their labour.

If the strike goes ahead it will be one day before the launch of direct flights by the airline from Nairobi to the US.

World’s longest sea bridge to speed up cross border shipments

China’s President Xi, opened the world’s longest sea bridge this week to connect Hong Kong, Macau and Zhuhai, stretching across the Pearl River Delta. The bridge, which is 34 kms long will shorten the travel time from the West Pearl River Delta from 3.5 hours to 75 minutes by road.

“Many manufacturers have moved to the west bank of the Pearl River,” said Frankie Yick Chi-ming, member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong for the transport sector. He added that the new route will help shippers avoid congestion and delays.
