Airfreight solution to Brexit auto-parts logjam concerns
As concerns are growing about a Post Brexit disruption to the auto parts supply chain between Europe and the UK, Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Leipzig Halle Airport have launched a contingency plan to keep materials moving.
The two airports together with Wynne Aviation Services, Jota Aviation, Airport Park Leipzig-Halle, Volga-Dnepr Group and handler Portground announced the venture. It will offer air freight services in the event that automotive just-in-time trucking supply chains are affected by Channel disruption.
Qantas records strong freight gains for 2018
Australian airline Qantas has announced strong financial results for the six-month period that ended on December 31.
Net freight revenue reached A$525m, up by 15% on the same period of 2017. The carrier said in a statement that, “The freight business delivered a steady performance”, with revenue rising on the back of increased global demand.
Oily water discharge costs carrier US$2 million
Interorient Marine Services Ltd. has been fined US$2 million by a US court and will be on a four-year probation term after being found guilty of discharging of oil from the MR Ridgebury Alexandra Z tanker into the Gulf of Mexico.
The company was also found guilty of maintaining false and incomplete records in connection with the incident. The court ruled that all of the company’s vessels calling at US ports will be required to implement a robust environmental compliance plan for a total period of four years.
